Optical IP Switching for Dynamic Traffic Engineering in Next-Generation Optical Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
WDM technology has increased network link capacity dramatically, moving the network bottleneck from the transport to the routing layer. Hybrid electro-optical architectures seem at the moment a reliable and cost-effective solution for near-future implementations of the routing/switching layer. In this paper we present a novel approach to dynamic optical circuit switching based on the Optical IP Switching (OIS) model. OIS nodes classify IP packets by destination prefix, aggregating them into dynamically created optical paths. We report simulation results based on real traffic traces collected from the panEuropean GÈANT network.

Advances in the management and control of optical Internet
Given the ever increasing demand for network bandwidth, and the recent phenomenal advances in optical wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networking technologies, a major component of the Next Generation Internet will be an Internat protocol (IP)-based optical WDM network. As IP over WDM networking technologies mature, a number of important architectural, management and control issues have s...

متن کاملLatency in Grid over Optical Burst Switching with Heterogeneous Traffic
Optical burst switching (OBS) has been proposed as the next generation optical network for grid computing. In this paper, we envision a heterogeneous Grid served by an Optical Burst Switching framework, where grid traffic co-exists with IP and/or a 10 GE based traffic to achieve economy of scale. This paper addresses the latency that Grid jobs experience in OBS networks. The injection of jumbo ...
متن کاملApplication of Tell & Go and Tell & Wait Reservation Strategies in a Optical Burst Switching Network: a Performance Comparison
This paper deals with the comparison between two resource reservation techniques, named Tell and Go (TG) and Tell and Wait (TW), when they are used in an All Optical Network for the support of high-speed IP traffic. This comparison study is motivated considering that the modes currently under investigation for the implementation of the next generation coarse packet switched optical networks, e....
متن کاملAn Analytical Study of Optical Burst Switching Aggregation Strategies
Optical Burst Switching (OBS) is considered as a promising switching technique for the next generation of optical networks. A solid understanding of the characteristics of OBS traffic is the prerequisite to efficiently address a series of problems such as network dimensioning, performance optimization, routing and load balancing. In this paper we address this issue presenting the first exact an...
